LAHORE: Fancied bay filly Slightly Hurt landed the Makhdoomzada Syed Hasan Mahmud Memorial New Year Cup in a style of her own when she outclassed her seven rivals to take the crown during the Lahore Winter Meeting at the Racecourse here on Sunday.
The USA sire Tybalt’s daughter, Slightly Hurt came home an emphatic five-length winner in a field of eight high-class bloodline runners during the term race for the three-year-olds run over the sprinting distance of 1,000 metres.
The Chaudhry Tahir Mahmood-owned filly recorded a fast timing of 59 3/5 seconds over the race distance in her second successive victory.
This was the sixth race of the day in the racing order. Originally the winner was to be ridden by jockey Aamir Pervez but he had to be replaced by A. Raza after Aamir had a fall from chestnut colt Strife in the fourth race but was lucky to escape unhurt. Perhaps trainer Shahid Rehman thought the jockey may be in a state of shock hence may not be able to partner the filly in the race billed a tough affair but it turned out totally the reverse of it.
Bay fillies Cattelieya, Emaan and Shooting star completed the frame.
A race earlier bay filly Savante Hill produced a performance worth her pedigree potential to win the Ghaznavi Cup run over 1,300 metres. She took up the lead while entering in to the straight and was cleverly guided by M. Hanif to a half-a-length success.
Bay filly Proposal finished second with Colour Me Crazy and Tarteeb completing the frame.
Trainer Tauqir Ahmed maintained his lead on the Jockey Club Of Pakistan (JCP) trainers’ statistics table for 2015-16 when he sent home bay colt Vegas a clear five-length winner in the fourth race in which the other public fancy chestnut colt Strife’s jockey Aamir had a fall.
Tauqir had to his credit 16 wins against his nearest rival Mohammad Afzal’s 14.
